Whether swimming or boating for your next level, making something special in crafts or pottery, climbing the low ropes course, riding the mountain bike trails or exploring creation, every activity at Adventure Camp is designed to challenge you and to help you grow.

Adventure Camp creates space for every camper to build authentic relationships—with friends, well trained leaders who are there to support and mentor them, and most importantly with God who loves them and wants each of them to discover the potential of who they were created to be.

Girls’ Camp (Ages 11-16)

Girls’ Camp is a place bursting with excitement as girls jump into amazing experiences like camp wide games, action-packed program and theme events, activities like swimming, kayaking, rowing, horseback riding, high ropes, sports, crafts, and the opportunity to build great friendships.

At the heart of Girls’ Camp is the opportunity to grow through learning new skills, experiencing creation, and enjoying laughter, friendship and the joys of living in community. At Girls’ Camp we also seek to create a fun and exciting place for every young woman to build authentic and lasting relationships with God who loves them and wants them to discover the potential of who they were created to be.

Boys’ Camp (Ages 11-16)

Boys’ Camp is the ultimate action-packed overnight summer camp adventure. During each session at Boys’ Camp you can see boys sailing, kayaking, riding the dirt jump bike park, flying down the zip line, being launched off the BLOB, playing frisbee golf or sports, woodworking in crafts, or sneaking through the Muskoka forest while playing an epic wide game!

Boys’ Camp is also a place where young men learn about God’s love for them and discuss what a relationship with him could look like through small group discussion and mentoring relationships with staff. Tobogganing … Free family fun!

One of the funnest activities you can do in the Winter as a family is to go tobogganing. It costs no money, needs very little equipment and it’s hours of fun!  Go to a neighbourhood park or change it up by trying somewhere new.

The key to toboganning is finding a great hill.  Here is a good site www.tobogganhills.com where you can search for hills by location, add your favourite hills, add photos, comment on and rate hills and discuss various different sleds.

Some things to consider when going tobogganing
– Be sure to dress warmly and keep your skin covered as much as possible.
– Depending on hill size it is recommended that children wear helmets
– Pick a hill that it free of trees, away from water and far from roads and parking lots
– Be courteous to other tobogganers and teach your children to walk up the side
– Teach your children to sit properly on their knees or bottom
– Do not overload a sled

Grab your sled and hit the hills for a fun time with the family!

“If I can’t go to Disney World … Bring on Great Wolf Lodge”

From the mouth of my once 4 year old daughter  “If I can’t go to Disney World then i’d like to go to Great Wolf Lodge”.  Of course our kids would love to go to Disney World every day but seeing as our money tree still hasn’t started to grow in the backyard they are always bugging to go to Great Wolf Lodge.

Every time we surprise them with a visit to Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara and they are ecstatic!  When we pull into the parking lot the squeals from the backseat are near deafening followed by lots of “thank you Mommy and Daddy”.  We have visited the Lodge 8 times and every time seems to get better and better and mostly I think it is because they are older and can do more.  We usually book a cool Kid Camp room which means  they had their own little area with bunk beds and a tv.  The room are always very clean (upon arrival), fully stocked with towels and let me tell you that the beds are SO comfy!

Once we are all suited up, it’s off to the watepark we goooooo!  So much to do, where to start?  Wooly Mammoth always wins as the first trip down the slides.  This has always been a favourite of ours as even the little kids can ride with the family as long as they can sit up on their own.  What I love about GWL’s water park is that there are slides where the little ones can ride with a parent so she they really aren’t very limited at.  Big slides, smaller slides, lazy river, wave pool, big bucket dumps…we did it all over and over and over.  Apparently this is the time of year to go because we never had to wait in line for more than 5 minutes if at all.

Generally we don’t eat all of our meals at GWL as it can be pricey but they now offer a meal add on at check-in which is around $45/adult and $20/child for a breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Really it’s a great deal.  I found the food was tastier this time for some reason and there seemed to be so many more options from burgers and fries to sandwiches and salads so everyone can easily find something they want to eat.  If you do choose to bring food from home, there is a small fridge and microwave in your room.

Yes the waterpark is the main attraction at GWL but there is also so much more to do outside of the waterpark.

Kids Club is a fun place for parents to go with their kids for some down time and so your skin can unwrinkle!  They can play with toys, colour, paint and for an additional cost they can paint a pillow case or t-shirt, get a tattoo or participate in the pajama party.

DS loved the arcade… well I think hubby loved it just as much as we didn’t see them  for a while!   Much like a Chuck E Cheese, you can play games to win tickets and in exchange they trade their tickets in for small prizes.  What kid doesn’t love this?

Story time is a must do!  Put the kids in their jammies, grab their favourite stuffie and gather round the Oak tree in the lobby for a show and a couple of very animated Robert Munsch stories.  Best part is at the end when they make the kids promise to go right to sleep once they get back to their rooms and the kids actually agree!!!  Truly by this time they are exhausted from all the waterpark fun so generally they fall asleep within seconds of their heads hitting the pillow.

In the morning the kids are invited to do a wolf walk where they learn about the different animals in the lobby, learn to walk and howl like wolves and get to make a wolf craft.  Again, another fun little add on that the kids really enjoyed.

Magiquest was the big hit this time we went as they had never tried it before.  Magiquest is a live action adventure game where the kids have a magic wand in-hand and wander around the lodge looking for enchanted objects, learn from an ancient wizard, battle a goblin and outwit a dragon.  You do need to purchase a wand and a game pass but the great thing is that they can bring the wand back for every visit and continue on their quest.  There are many different adventures and quests to do and it is great to watch the kids running all around the hotel trying to complete them (while Mommy & Daddy sit on a centralized couch with a latte in hand) I’m not going to lie, hubby and I had just as much fun play Magiquest as the kids did.  It’s great to fill the down time or even when they needed a break from the water.

Yes a trip to GWL can become pricey but there are always deals to be had which we will keep you informed about on our FB page

4 million stairs climbed (give or take), bad hair day for 3 days straight and exhausted parents but happy children and great family fun had by all …can’t wait to do it again!!

Kids love to swim year round but unfortunately our Canadian weather does not allow for this in the outdoors year round.  Thankfully there are some options in terms of indoor water parks that fit all different budgets and wants.  Some allow you to visit just for the day but they all offer overnight packages with or without food included.  Here are some links to indoor waterpark fun in Niagara.

Scavenger Hunt

Plan a scavenger hunt around your neighbourhood!  Send the kids out with a list of things they need to find in the neighbourhood.  The list can include: signage, people, animals, items in nature, certain coloured vehicles, house numbers, garbage, and the list goes on and on.  Be sure to have prizes or at least some hot chocolate waiting for them when they return!

Tim Hortons is offering complimentary swimming at local pools across Canada. As a way of saying thank you they want to invite you to come out and swim for free to spend time having fun and being active with your family.  Find a location near you

Maple Syrup Festivals

The maple syrup is flowing at a conservation area or sugarbush near you! Get out and experience the tapping of the trees, sample some yummy maple products and skip making a meal by enjoying pancakes!

Not only fun for the kids but great for Mommy’s sanity too.  No cost out of your pocket, the kids get to play with their friends and the Moms can visit with another adult.
