We are always up for trying out new places for family fun so when we were invited to visit Bingemans in Kitchener, my family was totally excited.  I had been years ago but had never been with the kids.

 IMG_3184.JPG IMG_3189.JPG

Thankfully we got a nice sunny day so it was a perfect day for the waterpark and we spent our entire day there.  Big Splash has 7 different waterslides, a heated wave pool and a splash area so there’s something for everyone.

Besides riding the slides over and over again, we also enjoyed this about the water park:

  • There is cool music pumping through the speakers all day
  • Lots of loungers and chairs with shady areas available
  • There is an ice cream hut on location as well as a snack bar but I love the fact that you can bring in your own food.  We packed up a cooler with sandwiches, fruit, veggies and water and then hit the ice cream place for dessert.
  • Staff is super friendly and attentive to the safety of all guests
  • Bathrooms and the park in general were very clean

Beyond the Big Splash water park…

IMG_3208 IMG_3203-1 IMG_3215

For sure, the water park was the highlight of our kids day but there are so many other things you can do at Bingemans.  Included in your daytime entry, you can also use the pool, mini golf and beach volleyball.  We loved the mini golf!  As a competitive family, this course was a great family battle on this super cute course to see who would be victorious.  I am happy to say that the winner was…. ME!

Onsite there is also Funworx which has video games, a climbing area and a ropes course.  We barely made it there to play due to all the fun we had in the waterpark.  The kids were a little disappointed because we didn’t have socks for them which is required on the climbing structure and neither were wearing close toed shoes for the ropes course.  Now we could have bought socks but they were quite happy to play some video games, grab some fries and head back to our site for the night.  KingPin bowling looked cool as well but again there was the time factor.  That being said, when we return we will be sure to stay more than one night so we can make time to do everything.

Camping At Bingemans…

Because one day at Bingemans is not enough to take in all the fun, why not consider staying the night. In advance, you can book a campsite to tent or park your trailer or stay in a cabin or a yurt.  We stayed the night in a Yurt for the first time ever and it was a cool experience!

IMG_3200IMG_3223-1IMG_3201

In Yurt Village, you will find9 yurts that you can stay in if you are looking for a hassle free way to spend the night.  The best thing we found with the yurt is that there was barely any set-up required.  The yurt was equipped with 2 sets of bunks (single over single and single over double), a small table and chairs and a front locking door to keep all you valuables safe while you are away from the site.  Thick canvas sides keep you protected from the elements with the side windows allowing for good airflow.  Each site is equipped with a picnic table for outdoor eating or games and a fire pit for yummy nighttime snacks.  Oh and the kids were excited that the yurt had an electrical outlet so they could charge their iPads for a late night movie.  All in all it was a cool experience with an easy set-up.  When asked if they would yurt camp again I got 2 really loud cheers and 1 cheer for regular tent camping.  Whatever the liking, we can come back and enjoy Bingemans again in a tent or in a yurt and have a great time!

Thanks to Bingemans for hosting us for a fun time and we can’t wait to return in the near future!

Family Fun at Centreville Amusement Park #Review

Amusement parks in ontario

Centreville - Ontario Attraction
Hop on the ferry and take a ride over to Centre Island for a day of fun with the family!   You’ll find the ferries at the foot of Bay Street at Queen’s Quay West.  Getting there is half the fun as you get a short scenic ride taking in the Toronto skyline.

Amusement parks in ontario

Centreville Amusement Park is  fun for kids 10 and younger I would say.  The park is well maintained with clean washrooms, shaded areas to escape the sun, a small splash area to cool down and of course some rides for the kiddies!

Centreville - Ontario Attraction

Take a ride on the Lil Red Express Train that will take you through the amusement park to give you a different perspective of the park that the kids will enjoy.

The motorized Bumper boats were one of our kids favourite rides that we did a few times.  Suited up with a life jacket, each rider gets their own bumper boat to steer around the pond and spin around or bump the other riders.

The Log Ride is perfect to cool down and is great for your little thrill seeker that loves a a good stomach dropping hill.

Hands down the Scrambler was the kids favourite ride.  Like the original midway ride, you get scrambled all over the place but the catch is that part way through the ride they shut off the lights and crank the music.

There are lots of other rides to enjoy like the mini drop zone, swan ride, touring cars, antique carousel and about 30 rides in total that your little one will enjoy.

Did you know there is a farm in Centreville?  True fact!  Far Enough Farm is home to around 40 different animals.  You are able to stroll through the farm and visit the animals, learn about them and pet them.  Some of the animals at the farm include: sheep, cows, bunnies, horses, pigs and more.

There are a lot of food options so you can purchase your lunch/dinner but you are also welcome to pack a picnic and bring it with you which is what we chose to do.  Snack options include ice cream, funnel cake, muffins, cotton candy and popcorn.

When you’re done at the amusement park, take some time to head to check out some of the rest of the island.  You can rent bikes and tour around, rent a kayak, let the kids splash around at the splash pad and play in the park or just tour the island and check out the views of the lake.

Combined with Centreville amusement park and the fun that the rest of the island has to offer, you could spend an entire day having fun with the family and making great memories!

Canada’s Wonderland #Review

Ontario Attractions - Canada's Wonderland

Ontario Attractions - Canada's Wonderland

Year after year we purchase season’s passes to Canada’s Wonderland!  Why?   Because we find that the value of family fun from getting them is so worth it!  This year is no different.  Each year, Canada’s Wonderland adds new attractions, changes up the shows and keeps the “old favourites” maintained so we can continue to enjoy them.

Wonder Mountain's Guardian

This year the kids were excited to try out the new Wonder Mountain’s Guardian.  If you head there as soon as the park opens, the line to get on shouldn’t be too bad.  We waited about 30 minutes but the time seemed to fly by because while you wait you can read up on facts about the ride and try out some trivia.  Being the competitive family we are, we could have stayed in the line-up area for hours!

Canada's Wonderland    Canada's Wonderland

Although our anticipation to try out this new ride was at an all time high, we didn’t ask anyone we knew about it as we wanted it to be a surprise.  3D glasses on and we were ready to goooo….

During the ride you are taken into the caverns of the mountain where your gaming skills and competitive side are put to the challenge when you  try to shoot bats,  spiders, crabs and sea monsters in the quest to have the highest score.  In the end, the ultimate battle takes place in the dragon’s lair where you take on the dragon Ormaar.  Will you be victorious or have to escape?  Will you be the top scorer in your cart?  Good luck and oh by the way you will love the final surprise at the end!  😉

My kids gave Wonder Mountain’s Guardian 2 thumbs up with a rating of AWESOME!

Ontario Attractions - Canadas Wonderland

We love Wonderland because it is great for people of all ages as they have different areas of the park designated to different age groups.

Planet Snoopy & Kidzville are geared to the younger ones with smaller versions of some of the bigger rides like the swinging boat, swings, roller coasters, carousel and spinning barrels.  The kids can even meet up with the beloved Peanuts characters for a meet and greet and picture.

The rest of the park is filled with all different variations of coasters, spinning rides, stomach droppers and unique rides that are sure to suit all the thrill seekers in your family.

As our kids grow taller, I am so excited to get to try new rides with them each year.  It’s like a new adventure with each new season!

 Ontario Attractions - Canada's Wonderland

You can’t miss the shows at Wonderland.  From the High divers and trampoline acrobatics to the musical invasion and cirque experience, you will be dazzled!  We look forward to the shows every year and have always been highly entertained.

Ontario Attractions - Canada's Wonderland
Be sure to cool off in Splash Works at some point during your visit.  This 20-acre waterpark has lots of water slides, splash pads, a lazy river, wave pool and more to keep you cool while you’re having fun.

All this fun making you hungry?

Canada’s Wonderland has a good selection of food to choose from but if you are being budget conscience you are always welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the grounds outside the admission gates.  To accommodate this, in and out privileges are happily granted with just a stamp on your hand before you exit.

Oh and one of my biggest moments of excitement so far this year was discovering that there is now a full service Tim Horton’s onsite!!!

If you haven’t been to Canada’s Wonderland before or just need something super fun to do one day, our entire family says that Canada’s Wonderland is a sure bet for family fun!!

Review of Marineland in Niagara Falls, ON

photo 2-2

Although Marineland has been a controversial tourist location for the past couple of years, we wanted to visit to form our own opinion. Our kids had a great time so I want to share some positive points with you on how you can enjoy a day at Marineland with your family.

Arctic Cove

Marineland - Ontario Attraction  Marineland - Ontario attraction  Marinleand - Ontario attraction

We began our day with a Beluga Whale encounter at Arctic Cove, which I must say was the coolest part of my day by far. For $8/person you get to meet with a whale trainer and a beluga whale. Our whale buddy was named Andre. During our time with the trainer, we were able to ask questions and learn all about the habits and life of a beluga whale. Each of us got turns touching and feeding this awesome mammal some fish. I will be the first to admit that the shear size and firmness of Andre was a wee bit intimidating for me but the kids had a no fear attitude. According to my 6 year old, the beluga whale feels like a hard-boiled egg.

Did you know?

Adult Beluga whales have 3 stomachs and eat about 60lbs of fish per day

Young beluga whales are grey in colour and as they age they turn white

Waldorf Stadium Show

Be sure to catch the King Waldorf Stadium Show which is presented at regular intervals throughout the day. Check the schedule upon entry to see what times the show is that day.   Watch the sea lions, beluga whales and dolphins jump, spin and play in this show the kids are sure to enjoy. One lucky little observer will be chosen from the audience to help out and get a special treat.

Rides

Marineland has rides for all ages. When the kids were younger, they could spend most of the day riding the kiddie rides and have a blast. In the kid area, your young ones will be entertained by the mini lady bug coaster, orca screamer drop zone, mini ferris wheel and more.

Now that our kids are 6 & 8 and have a love for the bigger rides, we actually had a chance to venture over and try some of the larger rides. It was a little disappointing though that 3 of the rides were closed for maintenance but those that we open we great. Since the park was not too busy on the day we went, lines were short and therefore we were able to ride many times. I think hands down, our family’s favorite ride was the Dragon Mountain Roller Coaster. We honestly rode this about 10 times! My 6 year old, being the brave soul she is, when on the Sky Screamer and gave it a rating of super fun! The other big rides in the area we also fun but for sure the coaster and drop zone were our family’s favourite.

Buy your lunch or pack a picnic

Food at Marineland is reasonably priced in my opinion but your are welcome to bring your own food into the park and eat at one of the picnic areas or even lay out a blanket on any of the many grassy areas.
