Another wintery weekend is upon us so we might as well make the best of it while the snow lasts.  There are a few winter festivals taking place in local towns or you can make your own family fun this weekend by going skiing, tobogganing, tubing or snowshoeing!!

Winter Fun Day – Get outdoors and spend a fun-filled afternoon with your family at Backus.   Stop by the Conservation Education Centre for some SNOW activities, crafts, and a guided hike.  Take the opportunity to strap on a pair of snowshoes and learn the basics.  Small group guided snowshoe walk at 1:30 and 2:30 pm or borrow a pair of snowshoes and try to manoeuver through an obstacle course.  Afterwards, sit by the campfire and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

Winterfest – The City of Barrie’s Winterfest is a great way to celebrate the winter season. Grab your mittens and join us for winter fun adventures that the whole family will enjoy.  Outdoor activities include polar bear swim, horse-drawn wagon rides, dogsled rides, lumberjack show, ice maze, and much more including spectacular sculptures carved from 300lb blocks of ice.

Frostfest – Entertainment from 10 am – 2 pm at the Batawa Community Centre. Season of the Snowsnake @ Crawford Lake Conservation Area – Explore the beautiful snowy landscape on a pair of snowshoes courtesy of Crawford’s rental program. Join staff for guided tours of the reconstructed Iroquoian Village at 11am1pm and 3pm.  Each tour will have a unique focus such as games, archaeology or storytelling.   Warm up after the tour with a complimentary cup of nature’s tea. Children can create a craft or enjoy a discovery hunt from 10am to 4pm.

Winterlude – A unique winter festival featuring snow and ice sculpture competitions, snow playgrounds, skating, sporting events and let’s not forget the world’s largest skating rink. Celebrate the joys of winter at Winterlude, with three fun-filled weeks in February. Canada’s favourite winter activities are featured across Ottawa and Gatineau at this annual event.

Winterfest – Fun-filled family event held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will feature FREE stage entertainment on the outdoor Amphitheatre stage, the Midway Zone,  a new Video Gaming Zone, IceZone Carving Demos, face painting, art, and pizza making workshops along with opera performances and workshops by Opera Bel Canto of York, displays and much more!
