Weekend Fun Guide Family Events in Ontario

It’s hard to believe the month of March is almost over!!  I guess the saying is true, time does fly when you’re having fun.  That being said, be sure to get out and enjoy the nice weather this weekend and have some fun with your family.  There isn’t a ton going on but there are still a lot of Maple Syrup based festivals taking place, you can catch a movie or go hiking at a local conservation area.  This Saturday, don’t forget to participate in Earth Hour and do your part to help the planet!

This Saturday, March 29th, from 8:30-9:30 pm join millions of homes across the world as they switch off their lights for Earth Hour.  Earth hour takes place to raise awareness for the planet.  By turning off your lights, and unplugging your appliances and electronics for this hour, you are showing your concern for the future of the environment. Find an Earth Hour event near you or make your own family fun with some of these fun ideas.

Sample a variety of syrup grades to determine your maple syrup personality before you pick up a litre (or two!) to take home from the gift shop. Round out the experience with maple themed crafts and discovery hunts for kids.

Take a tractor-drawn wagon back to our sugar bush to see how maple syrup was made in the olden days and how we make it now. Enjoy pancakes with real maple syrup and buy some maple syrup or sugar to take home. The sugar bush is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day of the Maple Madness program. Be sure to browse through the maple products and souvenirs available in the Maple Gift Shoppe and pick up a bottle of syrup to take home. Hop on a wagon that will take you to a heated pancake house where you can enjoy fresh, hot pancakes with pure maple syrup and sausages, served up throughout the festival hours.  We make our own Fresh Maple Sugar and Maple Taffy!

Tap Into Maple – A unique family adventure all about MAPLE in Ontario’s Lake Country from March 1st – May 31st. Located in Central Ontario and only a short drive from the GTA, Ontario’s Lake Country and Springwater are the perfect place for maple trees, and celebrating all things maple. Some of the local maple syrup producers have been harvesting the sap for over 100 years.  Local residents and visitors are encouraged to experience all things maple this spring on what just might be the sweetest route through one of the prettiest parts of the province.

It is officially spring, and although there may still be snow on the ground, spring means it’s Maple Syrup time in Ontario!  This weekend there are so many maple syrup themed events taking place.  You can also check out upcoming and ongoing events here.  Nothing says Canadian family fun like maple syrup eh?

Moonlight Snowshoe Hike @ Crawford Lake Conservation Area – Discover the magic of winter at night, the snow illuminated by moonlight and the stars bright in the night sky. Moonlight Snowshoe Hikes begin with an introductory video and snowshoeing lesson followed by a guided hike through the winter woodlands. The evening will end as any good winter outing should – fireside with some tasty hot chocolate and a marshmallow roast! Pre-registration required, click here for tickets! 

Snow Flakes and Snow Snakes @ Crawford Lake Conservation Area – Celebrate the magic of Canada’s most unique season at Crawford Lake’s Snowflakes and Snow Snakes event.  Event activities include: legends in the longhouse, snowshoeing and snow snake (a traditional Iroquoian winter game) demonstrations, marshmallow roasts, craft making and much more!

Maple Syrup Festival @ Bronte Creek – Enjoy a guided tour of the Maple Lane, where 1890s costumed interpreters demonstrate how to tap maple trees, make maple syrup and maple sugar. View artifacts in the maple museum or tour the 100-year-old Spruce Lane Farmhouse. Be sure to browse through the maple products and souvenirs available in the Maple Gift Shoppe and pick up a bottle of syrup to take home. Hop on a wagon that will take you to a heated pancake house where you can enjoy fresh, hot pancakes with pure maple syrup and sausages, served up throughout the festival hours.  We make our own Fresh Maple Sugar and Maple Taffy!

Tap Into Maple – A unique family adventure all about MAPLE

Ontario’s Lake Country from March 1st – May 31st

Located in Central Ontario and only a short drive from the GTA, Ontario’s Lake Country and Springwater are the perfect place for maple trees, and celebrating all things maple. Some of the local maple syrup producers have been harvesting the sap for over 100 years.  Local residents and visitors are encouraged to experience all things maple this spring on what just might be the sweetest route through one of the prettiest parts of the province.

Tap into Maple

Starting on March 1st and running through to May 31st, the Tap into Maple route was created to support and showcase local maple syrup, maple products and events. Filled with a variety of different stops throughout the region, the Tap into Maple route will get your senses flowing and your mouth watering. The participants are placed on a map and visitors can go from location to location gathering stamps on their Tap into Maple Passports. You can pick-up your Tap into Maple passport at participating locations. Come and experience our maple history, taste our local maple cuisine, and create your own maple products. You can even stay awhile, our local accommodators have some sweet maple packages available for you! Bring your family or getaway as a couple, Ontario’s Lake Country has something for everyone.

Tap Into Maple can be experienced in many ways. You can savour maple through food at various restaurants, you can delve into the history of maple syrup production at one of the region’s museums, you can stay at a local hotel or resort offering maple-infused packages or you can attend one of many events that will offer a unique maple flavour. Your passport provides information on 12 different maple-themed events and the 23 destinations on the Tap into Maple route. Bring the passport along with you to get special discounts and free treats – and get a stamp at each stop. When you have at least three stamps, you can submit your passport for a chance to win an overnight stay and a basket filled with local maple products valued at more than $500.

Jasmine discovers a whole new world with Aladdin after meeting her unlikely hero in the marketplace. Prince Philip defeats the evil fire-breathing dragon Maleficent in a race to save his true love Aurora. Prince Eric breaks Ursula’s spell so that Ariel can remain part of his world. Rapunzel, Tiana, Cinderella, Belle and Snow White also find happiness in this beautifully imagined ice show.
