IMG_2840

Our family is all about Summer fun!  We spend most of our time swimming, visiting splash pads, running through the sprinkler and jumping in the lake.  Yep, Summer for us is pretty much all about water fun.

I recently heard about a new company out of Toronto, ON called Snappy towels.  There concept is simple but one that makes so much sense.  You know one of those, “how did I not think of this myself” good ideas.

The 411 on Snappy Towels

Snappy Towels transform from beach towel to cape to hooded towel to cover-up in a snap!

Perfect for boys and girls 2 and up, Snappy Towels are fun at the beach, bath time, swimming lessons and everywhere in between. Sized just right for kids, Snappy Towels are 50″ x 27″, mid-weight 100% cotton.

What the Kids love about their new Snappy Towels:

– They are “soft and cuddly”

– They are big enough to wrap up most of their body

– They can work the snaps by themselves

And their absolute favourite reasons is the different ways they can use them…

 IMG_3093  IMG_3097-1

Here’s what Mom loves about Snappy Towels:

– The size is perfect for our every day outings, not too big and not too small

– The towels are customizable

– Pick your towel colour (pink, blue or green)

– Choose your snap colour (white, yellow or blue)

–  Add your name or a nickname

– Choose the font your would like your name written in (Choose from 3 fonts)

– Great quality!

Washes well.  After washing them I was happy to see there was no pilling, the snaps and embroidery were all in tact

– When the kids go to sleepaway camp this Summer there is no need for a label because they are embroidered with their names

– They are a Canadian company!

Summer Vacation hasn’t even barely started yet and our Snappy Towels have already been on so many adventures with us with so many more to come!

Ross Petty’s Cinderella is fantastically funny #Review #Giveaway

20140728RossPetty_Cinderella

cinderella_logo-e1405101270320

Ross Petty’s Cinderella is a fantastically funny musical that your entire family will love!  This gags to riches family musical marks the 19th annual holiday extravaganza in Toronto and is a must see this holiday season for your family.

20140728RossPetty_Cinderella

Now you may be thinking that Cinderella is a “girl show”, but I want to tell you that you couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to this Ross Petty Production.  Sure it’s got the basic story line of the fairytale but then you through in some outrageous twists to the story, awesome humour, some unplanned cast mishaps, ad libbing and audience interaction and you have the best Cinderella story to come to stage in years!

Ross Petty's CINDERELLA Press Kit7

Why we love Cinderella…the Ross Petty version

First of all, we  love that Ross Petty himself is a main character in his own production.  Decked out in a dress (of course), Petty plays the part of the evil stepmom, Revolta Bulldoza.  Ross takes on this role with the right mix of  humour, tackiness and smugness.   The audience loves to hate Ross Petty!  Booing his character throughout the performance as he comes on the stage or says something the crowd doesn’t like never gets old with the young and old in the audience.

Back for another year is the one of a kind, you can’t help but laugh at, the one and only….Plumbum.  Dan Chameroy once again plays this role with total laugh out loud humour and loveable awkwardness.  No Petty production would be complete without Plumbum!  Wait…what??  You don’t know who Plumbum is?  Well you need to find out by catching this show!

Ross Petty's CINDERELLA Press Kit2

The evil step sisters were absolutely hilarious!  From their funny songs, constant banter, whining and total outrageousness, these sisters had us in stitches the entire night.  Kinda hard to dislike them when they are just so darn loveable … in an annoying evil step sister kinda way of course.

Now the bell of the ball, Cinderella was obviously a highlight of the night for all the little ladies in the house.  Played by the super talented Danielle Wade, we were  awed by her beautiful voice and wowed by the gorgeous dress she wore to the ball.  Uhmm…where would I find that dress Ross?

Ross Petty's CINDERELLA Press Kit3

And of course we can’t forget about Cinderella’s “Prince Charming” who goes by the name Max Charming.  Played by the oh so handsome Jeff Lillico, Charming is a pop star who goes on a reality show to find the love of his life.  You will be charmed by his voice AND his good looks.

Spoiler alert – Be prepared to oooh and ahhh when Cinderella’s carriage comes out on staged pulled by real horses.  All the little girls in the audience went wild with excitement when they saw them.  Nice touch!

cinderella-ross-petty2

Here’s why our family loves Ross Petty Productions, why your family will too and why we will be going back year after year!

Entertaining for the whole family – The kids will enjoy the fairytale part of the production, the set and costumes and most of the humour while the adults get the added bonus of the grown up jokes.  You won’t leave with anyone saying they didn’t LOVE it!

Interactive – This isn’t your usual ‘take your seats, sit back and enjoy the show’ kind of show.  We love how the crowd gets involved with cheering and booing and how the actors react and comment back to the crowd

Ad lib humour – The cast goes with the flow of the show and that is one of the best parts.  Cast members mess up their lines or trip from time to time in live performances and the cast will just run with it and make the best of it which adds even more humour to the show.

The cast – The on stage cast is pretty small for a production of this length (approx 1hr 45 mins) but it’s neat to see how many different roles they play throughout the performance.

Genuine Appreciation – Ross Petty genuinely appreciates and respects the cast he works with on the production.  He took he time to thank everyone for coming and thanked the cast for being so great and said how he enjoyed working with them all

BELLY LAUGHS – And last but certainly not least …belly laughs!  Nothing beats hearing your child laughing so hard that they laugh from their belly.  Our son (who is 9) laughed so hard that he had tears in his eyes at one point.  Now THAT is good entertainment :-)

Ross Petty's CINDERELLA Press Kit6

To Ross, all the cast, crew and staff that worked on this year’s production of Cinderella, I say BRAVO on an amazing show that our entire family loved!!  Thank you and we’ll see you next year!

Family Fun at Centreville Amusement Park #Review

Amusement parks in ontario

Centreville - Ontario Attraction
Hop on the ferry and take a ride over to Centre Island for a day of fun with the family!   You’ll find the ferries at the foot of Bay Street at Queen’s Quay West.  Getting there is half the fun as you get a short scenic ride taking in the Toronto skyline.

Amusement parks in ontario

Centreville Amusement Park is  fun for kids 10 and younger I would say.  The park is well maintained with clean washrooms, shaded areas to escape the sun, a small splash area to cool down and of course some rides for the kiddies!

Centreville - Ontario Attraction

Take a ride on the Lil Red Express Train that will take you through the amusement park to give you a different perspective of the park that the kids will enjoy.

The motorized Bumper boats were one of our kids favourite rides that we did a few times.  Suited up with a life jacket, each rider gets their own bumper boat to steer around the pond and spin around or bump the other riders.

Centreville - Ontario Attraction   Centreville - Ontario Attraction   Centreville - Ontario Attraction

The Log Ride is perfect to cool down and is great for your little thrill seeker that loves a a good stomach dropping hill.

Hands down the Scrambler was the kids favourite ride.  Like the original midway ride, you get scrambled all over the place but the catch is that part way through the ride they shut off the lights and crank the music.

There are lots of other rides to enjoy like the mini drop zone, swan ride, touring cars, antique carousel and about 30 rides in total that your little one will enjoy.

Centreville - Ontario Attraction

Did you know there is a farm in Centreville?  True fact!  Far Enough Farm is home to around 40 different animals.  You are able to stroll through the farm and visit the animals, learn about them and pet them.  Some of the animals at the farm include: sheep, cows, bunnies, horses, pigs and more.

There are a lot of food options so you can purchase your lunch/dinner but you are also welcome to pack a picnic and bring it with you which is what we chose to do.  Snack options include ice cream, funnel cake, muffins, cotton candy and popcorn.

When you’re done at the amusement park, take some time to head to check out some of the rest of the island.  You can rent bikes and tour around, rent a kayak, let the kids splash around at the splash pad and play in the park or just tour the island and check out the views of the lake.

Combined with Centreville amusement park and the fun that the rest of the island has to offer, you could spend an entire day having fun with the family and making great memories!

All Rides and Attractions are subject to intermittent closures due to weather conditions, maintenance or other operational issues.

Maple Leaf Monster Jam #Review

NortherNightmare_1

We were excited to be invited to Maple Leaf Monster Jam at Rogers Centre last evening.  To be honest, as we had never been, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  My son isn’t a rough and tough kinda boy but he was super pumped to go to the show.  With his ear protection on he was ready to experience his very first (and definitely not his last) Monster Jam Show!

IMG_8525

Let the noise, cheering, revving engines and flip overs beginnnnnnnn…

IMG_8514 IMG_8493

IMG_8512 IMG_8502

The show begins with all the trucks doing laps to “show off” their power and style. It was awesome to see the actual size of the trucks and the amazing looks. The show is then broken down into two parts, races and freestyle.   Although the race part gets you excited and is fun to watch,  I would say the highlight of the show is the freestyle part.  This is where the trucks get to do what they want.  It was amazing to see how high they could jump and how long such a huge truck could hold a wheelie.  Crashes were spectacular but thankfully there were no injuries due to the high safety standards.    In between the Monster Trucks, quads came out to race for their team which was US vs. Canada.  Canada won 2 out of 3!!

IMG_8496 IMG_8521

IMG_8506 IMG_8514

What we loved, other than the obvious excitement, was that the show was very interactive from the drivers running up into the stands for photo ops to cheering for your favourite truck to free t-shirts being launched into the crowd.  All in all it was a super fun experience and one that we would definitely recommend and do again.

My 8 year old’s take on the show

What were you expecting when you heard we were going to Monster Jam and were you excited?

I was expecting a lot of crashing.  I was very excited because I had never been

What surprised you about Monster Jam?

What surprised me was that there so many broken trucks by the end of the show.

What was your favourite part of the show?

My favourite part of the show was seeing Son-uva Digger winning the race

What was your favourite truck?

Son-uva Digger was because he is the son of Grave Digger.  Well and I also liked the bus, Higher Education, and wish my school bus looked like that!

What would you want other kids to know about Monster Jam?

The whole show is fun and the trucks are awesome.  It’s really loud and Quad wars is really cool!

Helpful info – As it can be quite loud during the show and children’s ears can be more sensitive to the noise level, ear plugs and headphones can be purchased at a merchandise stand at the show or you can also bring your own.

Disney on Ice Princesses & Heroes – Family Entertainment Review

Prince-Philip-battles-Maleficent

Have a little princess or wee prince in your family?  Then you need to go see Disney on Ice Princesses & Heroes!  We took our 8 and 6 year old to see the show and they loved it!  We have been in years past and Feld Entertainment never ceases to impress us year after year.

The choreography, set design, and costumes are fantastic!  This year’s show is based on different fairytales and the starring princesses and their heroes along side them.  Of course no Disney show would be complete with Mickey and Minnie who were our MCs for the event.  Tinkerbell also made her appearance to kick off the show and in between stories to magically change the scenery and story with her wand.

Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids  Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids

The show kicks off with Aladdin being chased through the market and meeting his princess Jasmine.  The wonderful skating in this act left us knowing that the show was going to be a good one.

Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids

Hi Ho, Hi Ho it’s off to work we go.  Snow White and her prince joined the show with 7 of the cutest sidekicks…the 7 dwarfs.  I must say that Dopey was as cute as can be and pretty funny too.

Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids

Beauty and the Beast is one of the faves in our house and this part of the show did not let us down.  The choreographing and costumes for “Be Our Guest” was fantastic!

Disney on Ice - Vacationing with Kids

Of course everyone’s favourite mermaid was along for the show with her faithful friend flounder, her sisters, Sebastian and King Tritan himself.  The story wouldn’t be complete without Ursula and I must say that her costume was phenomenal.

Prince-Philip-battles-Maleficent

Hands down my son said the best part of the show was Sleeping Beauty when Princess Phillip fought the fire breathing (yes real fire) dragon to fight for his princess.  “It was SO cool!”

Cinderella-wishes-300x236

Probably the most famous princess of all, Cinderella, appeared in her carriage and danced her night away with her prince with amazing lifts and skating.

Last but not least we were dazzled by Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder taking the ice

Disney on Ice is a great family tradition and a show not to be missed!

Ho Ho Ho Santa’s Village is the Place to go!

SantasVillage1

When I was a little girl one of my favourite memories is when we would go to Santa’s Village in Bracebridge, Ontario.  Last weekend we had the chance to take our kids for the day and let me tell you, I was giddy with excitement.  I love when I can share what I enjoyed as a kid with my own children.

SantasVillage1

I will be honest, with a 5, 7 and 11 year old in tow I wasn’t too sure how long we would be there as it’s hard to keep them all interested with such an age gap.  Well our time there was so much fun for all of us … all 7 hours of it!!  It truly is fun for all ages and a great place to make family memories.

After moving through a very quick line-up at the gates we entered into Santa’s Village where the kids were given their elf hats so they could feel like Santa’s helper for the day.  It’s these little touches that make this place great.  It was funny to see hundreds of little elves running all over the place!

santa's village

Does it get any cuter than this?

Right off the bat I loved the cozy warm feeling of Santa’s Village.  There were Christmas tunes floating through the air, you could smell the yummy goodness coming from Mrs. Claus’ Bake Shop and you felt like you were in a little forest of fun with all the trees surrounding you.

Let the fun begin….

The kids were quickly drawn to the wooden cutouts where you stick your face through the hole and have your picture taken.

santa's village

So cute you could just eat up these little gingerbread people!

Next they ran over to the “old school” playground with tunnel slides and swings.  They could have spent a ton of time here but we had to drag them away so we could move more than 20 ft past the front gate.

santa's village

Dress up anyone?  This was more fun for my hubby and I probably as we dressed the kids up to have their “Christmas Card” picture taken.  There are racks of christmassy clothes you can dress up in and take pictures with some Christmas backgrounds.  Too fun!

santa's village

Say Cheese!

And we’re off to the rides!  The Red Baron Airplane Ride, Jumpin’ Star Dropper and Air Bouncers were all a hit with the kids!  But out of the rides, I think hands down their favourite was Santa’s Roller Coaster.  The best thing about the rides, as opposed to other theme parks, is that the lines are short and move quickly which as a parent is fantastic because there’s no whining!!

santa's village santa's village santa's village

“Hungry and time for lunch” as my 5 yr old declared.  Food is all reasonably priced and there are lots of kid (and parent) friendly options from pizza, sandwiches, fries, hot dogs and chicken nuggets.  For dessert have an ice cream or Beavertail.  What we loved was the souvenir cup you can buy for $5.99 and refill for only $1.  This came in handy as it was really hot when we were there.  Another great option is that you can pack a picnic to save on costs.

Speaking of hot day, be sure to pack your bathing suits and towels to enjoy their fun splash pad and beach area.  Who doesn’t love running through candy canes that dump water on you?

santa's village

Nope, unfortunately if you lick the candy canes they don’t taste minty

Taking a break from the sun, we were happy to find the little 3D cinema where we could watch “Sleigh Ride”.  This was a short film but it was in a nice little cool building and we all got to wear big 3D glasses!

IMG_5820

Looking good!

Well of course while we’re at Santa’s Village there is a place where you can meet the jolly man himself.  This was definitely  at the top of our kid’s list because how often do you get to stop in for a visit with Santa in the middle of the summer.  As you stroll through his house you can see where he writes his letters, see his gift list, and maybe even find a gift already wrapped under the tree for you.  Bring your camera as you can get a pic of the kids with Santa.  And don’t forget that a  little eavesdropping from the parents and you can start your Christmas shopping early!  😉

santa's village santa's village santa's village

After seeing Santa, be sure and go visit his trusty reindeer that help him get the presents delivered on Christmas Eve.  They are super friendly and you can touch them and feed them.  Rudolph is that you?

santa's village santa's village

All Aboard the Miniature train!  This was a fun little train ride that takes you through a good portion of the village and gives you a different viewpoint of the grounds.  When we on here our kids spotted Elves Island and that was our next stop…

 santa's village santa's village santa's village

Be sure to cross the bridge into Elves Island when you go for some fun on the playground, test your courage as your climb up the rope cargo net and let your inner Picasso out on the colouring wall.  This area was full of kids running around and having fun but I must admit that many adults (myself included) were loving the cargo net!

santa's village santa's village santa's village

Ready for a ride on Santa’s Sleigh?  Well, seeing as it’s summer and there’s no snow, this is really the next best thing!  Decorated to look like a sleigh, with the reindeer leading the way, this 50 ft. jet boat is super fun.  Captain Ricky, who has “steered” the sleigh for the past 32 years will entertain you with his personality, music and boat manoeuvres as you tour down the beautiful Muskoka River.

santa's village santa's village santa's village

Well our day has come to an end and we are ready to leave the park…but wait…Santa is hanging out at the exit saying good bye to all the guests.  Okay one more picture …

santa's village

What a great Santa!

As we pulled out of the parking lot, our very sleeping kids were already asking “When can we come back”?  See you soon Santa’s Village and thanks for all the memories :-)

On top of all of this, there is Sportsland which is geared to the older kids (ahem or your husband). This area is free to enter and is pay-as-you-go so be sure to check it out! Here you can find Go Karting, batting cages, an arcade and a Bungee Trampoline which our kids loved.  Pics not included as I had so much fun taking pictures the rest of the day that my battery died 😉  Fact of life when you’re having fun I suppose.
