Weekend Fun Guide Family Events in Ontario

It’s hard to believe the month of March is almost over!!  I guess the saying is true, time does fly when you’re having fun.  That being said, be sure to get out and enjoy the nice weather this weekend and have some fun with your family.  There isn’t a ton going on but there are still a lot of Maple Syrup based festivals taking place, you can catch a movie or go hiking at a local conservation area.  This Saturday, don’t forget to participate in Earth Hour and do your part to help the planet!

This Saturday, March 29th, from 8:30-9:30 pm join millions of homes across the world as they switch off their lights for Earth Hour.  Earth hour takes place to raise awareness for the planet.  By turning off your lights, and unplugging your appliances and electronics for this hour, you are showing your concern for the future of the environment. Find an Earth Hour event near you or make your own family fun with some of these fun ideas.

View artifacts in the maple museum or tour the 100-year-old Spruce Lane Farmhouse. Be sure to browse through the maple products and souvenirs available in the Maple Gift Shoppe and pick up a bottle of syrup to take home. Hop on a wagon that will take you to a heated pancake house where you can enjoy fresh, hot pancakes with pure maple syrup and sausages, served up throughout the festival hours.  We make our own Fresh Maple Sugar and Maple Taffy!

Orillia

Tap Into Maple – A unique family adventure all about MAPLE in Ontario’s Lake Country from March 1st – May 31st. Located in Central Ontario and only a short drive from the GTA, Ontario’s Lake Country and Springwater are the perfect place for maple trees, and celebrating all things maple. Some of the local maple syrup producers have been harvesting the sap for over 100 years.  Local residents and visitors are encouraged to experience all things maple this spring on what just might be the sweetest route through one of the prettiest parts of the province.

It is officially spring, and although there may still be snow on the ground, spring means it’s Maple Syrup time in Ontario!  This weekend there are so many maple syrup themed events taking place.  You can also check out upcoming and ongoing events here.  Nothing says Canadian family fun like maple syrup eh?

Aylmer – Maple Syrup Festival @ Springwater Conservation –  Every weekend in March they host their Annual Maple Syrup Festival! How Canadian eh? It’s a great family event for people of all ages that want to learn how Maple Syrup is made. Smell the sweet aroma billowing from the sugar shack as the maple sap is boiled down to syrup. Delta – Maple Syrup Festival – (April 19-20th) As soon as the sap starts to run, the community of Delta starts to prepare for the Delta Maple Syrup Festival.  Started as a Centennial Project, this annual event offers entertainment, refreshments, activities and of course, maple syrup and pancakes to the thousands of people who visit the Village of Delta each spring.

Central Ontario

Holstein – Holstein MapleFest (April 12-13th) @ Love’s Sugarbush – Bring the whole family for a day in our 40 acre sugarbush. Weʼll be serving our tummy filling Pancake and Sausage breakfast all day long. Enjoy our free craft sale with over 30 original vendors. Plenty of demonstrations in the sugar bush to enjoy, including the Fergus Highlands Pipe Band, Blacksmith, Taffy Pull, Ice Cream Making, Candle making, Catapults, our new Rope Bridge and plenty more.

Midland – Sweetwater Festival (March 29th – 30th) @ Wye Marsh – Activities are happening all day at the Wye Marsh during the Sweetwater Festival! Come out and see how maple syrup is made, roast some bannock on the fire or enjoy our delicious pancake breakfast. Thank you can tell the difference between real and fake maple syrup? We will put you to the test. This is one sweet event.

Uptopia – Spring Tonic (April 5th-6th) @ Tiffin Centre – The highlight of the maple syrup season at the Tiffin Centre, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Barrie! Enjoy a pancake breakfast, with maple syrup made on site, see how maple syrup is made today, and long ago, enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts, live entertainment & more!

Lanark Highlands – Wheelers Maple Products – Tour the Sugar Camp to see how sap is collected, enjoy a pancake meal with real maple syrup, visit the sheep, play in the playground or visit their maple heritage museum.

Pembroke –  Mapleside Sugar Bush – Stop in by chance or by appointment to observe nature’s harvest. See how the sap is collected and transferred to the shanty for boiling. While you’re here, shop for pure Canadian maple products to share with friends and family.

Northern Ontario

North Bay – Powassan Maple Syrup Festival (April 26th)– As in years previous, we will be starting the day with our Pancake Breakfasts at 7am. Most festival activities and entertainment generally come to end an around 4 pm. It will be a full day of food, live music, crafts, and fun family events.
